I bought a 80gig Seagate sata HDD... killed my primary partition after a few months...
reinstall windows. killed partitions C and D... I go to the website and check for SMART
errors. It fails the test so I RMA the drive. Seagate sends me a 120gig drive.
(the only good thing). I just RMAed that one too. Now seagate sends me another 120gig
This particular drive is now emitting an intermittent high pitched noise. Now can anyone
tell me WHAT THESE FOOLS ARE DOING?

i have found segate drives to be sensative to heat
the warmer they run the more unreliable they are likly to be
as for the partition's dieing
you should be s.m.a.r.t. enough to run a smart test reguraly on the drive
run it once a week when you run spywhere/adaware scaner
or use a program such as "speedfan" that polls the drive every 5min and can send u emails if the s.m.a.r.t. test results start changing for the worse

though i have to personaly admit i only have IBM SCSI and maxtor IDE/SCSI drives in production anymore

There's a saying that goes, "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." Now that may seem a bit harsh, but three drive failures in relatively quick succession makes me think that something's not right in your computer. I would probably point the finger either at power or cooling. I suggest that you evaluate the quality and performance of these two aspects in your computer. Are your drives underpowered, or being fed dirty power? Are they adequately cooled?
