I am wanting to get an external hard drive, should I go seagate or western digital? if you vote please explain yourself.

I am just a Western Digital guy.
Still remember way back in the day when Seagate drives would not play well with others and I have had very few issues with WD Drives and when I have, RMA's were painless.

I have a WD MyBook 500GB and it runs flawlessly

both

they both make badass drives and they both have badass rma

There shouldn't be. That'd be a function of the enclosure chipset, not the drive.

is there any reason that seagate would be better than WD, or vice versa?

and also, how do you turn them on and off using the linksys network server thingy?

I'm thinking you wouldnt "turn them on and off usinf the network thingy"
The WD enclosure has a button on it for on/off. The Hitachi enclosure I have has a Switch.
There is virtually no difference between Seagate/WD/hitachi etc...
Pick one and buy it, You're waffling :)

Both are great drives. I have plenty of both in their current generations.

you can not go wrong with either i have 3 seagates and they work flawlessly.

Strawberry or Blueberry... now you're doomed to hunger for all time :D
Stuffed French toast is better! ;)

wow, you sound like my gf... :p

but anywho, can you swap out the yellow leds for blue ones on the front of the seagate?

they are both equivalent. however seagate has a 5 year warranty, wheras WD is only 3. the advantage of this should be obvious. i only buy seagate drives nowadays
