Seagate or WD

Seriously, it depends on what you want from the drive. Start with the sticky Seagate may be the best for you, with their best in class 5 year warranty. WD has a really compelling drive in the Raptor. You may want a drive from another maker - Samsung makes far and away the quietest drives you can buy, as an example.

Now, there are factors outside the hard drive case that may affect your decision, warranty service as an example. Seagate has built a reputation over the years as the most reliable drives available with great warranty service if your drive should need to be replaced. WD's reputation for build quality is not quite as high, but their warranty service is generally superb as well. In contrast, you may wait 2 weeks to a month for a Hitachi replacement to come back, a real disappointment if that time keeps your rig out of action - but on the flip side, Hitachi has some of the fastest drives going.

Read the info that's already been posted, poke around and see what you can find out about what's important to you, and post back with any questions that you may still have. There are seven different recommendations in the Buyer's Guide - there is no one drive that is best suited to all usage models and objectives.
 
uhh, for what? speed? noise? warranty? be more specific. But if you're just asking for preferences from everyone here, then I guess I rather go with Seagate.
 
Unless you're buying a Raptor, don't bother with WD. I have one in my server left over from an RMA (a WD SE actually) and I hate it. I also have a Raptor in one of my workstations and it works great.
 
Seagate. But, again, it depends on what you are looking for in a HDD, what you are going to use it for, etc. More info, please!
