seagate hd going bad?

hi, when i booted up my system,everything in the case was running but no hd activity light. it didn't power up the monitor either. i had to turn monitor off then on again. then i saw a black screen saying "insert boot disk"or something like that, so i hit the reset button and then hit the F2 key to get in the bios and found that everything was set back to default settings. the boot sequence wasn't even right. so i set everything back to where it was,then rebooted and it seems ok now. i have intel 865pearl mb,P4-2.4 800fsb,2x512 kingston ddr400,evga5900se,seagate 40gb 7200, liteon cd-ron,audigy 2zs, antec 1080b,truepower 430w, winxp home ed.,dx 9c. i did however try intels 4% overclock yesterday which took it to 2496mhz. now i have it back to default speed. could this have been the culprit or is it hd problem? i built this system 11months ago and had no problems until this.i don't think it's spyware or virus or malware. i run adaware se,spybot,spywareblaster and go to housecall and panda software and they find nothing....thank you..
 
Not likely a hard drive issue, sounds more like a CMOS battery thats low, or a flaky mobo/cpu.
