I have a Seagate 7200.8 HD, was running fine until I installed a SATA card controller.

This HD was connected to Gigabyte Raid.

Plugged in power and no spinning at all. What do you think was the cause of it? I had data on the HD that I wanted to erase completely before going thru the exchange process. (if no power going thru, I am out of luck?)

Thanks.

Try hooking it back up to the mobo or hooking another drive in that drives spot to see if it works. Although it should stilll spin up if the data connector isn't connected... i think, they might have changed that though with sata spec since you can have staggered spinup on raid cards. Maybe make sure staggered spin up isn't set to like 2 minutes or something insanely high.

Did you plug in the power connector when the PC was on? If so, that action was likely the cause for your HDD's death.

Have no idea. BTW, I have a Gigabyte K8NSPro mb.

It ran fine until I turn the PC off to insert a SATA controller card. Then Gigabyte Raid did not detect it. At first I thought the Gigabyte controller gave up on me so I bought an external case to house this hd. Hooked everything up and realized that there is no power go into the hd.
