Seagate Goflex 2 TB problem

Hello,
I started using a Seagate GoFlex 2 TB back-up drive about a month ago.

My main drive is divided into 2 sub drives:

Drive C: 80 Gb
Drive F: 128 Gb

My problem, even with the 2 Terabit backup, it says it's a 1.8 Terrabit drive, with only 200 Gb space left!

Looking at what the backup drive says is on it:

Data file backup 14.81 Gb
System image: 140.00 Gb
Other files: 1.36 TB
Free Space: 317.00 Gb
Total size: 1.82 TB

I have cleared all backups except the most recent.

I bought a 2 TB backup as I wanted to add a couple more drives...but I need to fix this problem first...I don't why there is 1.36 TB of "other files" wasting space on the backup drive?

Rick

I'm now getting an error message that the back-up cannont back-up my computer due to a lack of space on the drive...

The problem is "Other files: 1.36 TB"
Why would there be over 1 TB of files if your whole main drive is 200 GB, including the free space?
Is it your backup program that messes things up?
It's certainly nothing coming from the backup drive itself.
Can you look up in Windows Explorer what "other files" there are on your backup drive?

As for the 1.82 TB capacity, it is normal. Open the drive's properties, it will show 2 million bytes / 1.82 terabytes. See here.

I agree with Chimel. It really sounds like your backup software is making multiple backups of the same 200GB of data, making the duplicates huge. I'd format the drive, rid it of any software, and do a manual backup, just to be sure. The Seagate GoFlex's are normally very good portable drives and don't tend to have many problems.

Also, you posted on a Friday, and on the weekend. Not many of us stick around for weekend posting. ;)

May be a stupid question, but have you been using this drive and doing backups all month? What I'm getting at - is that your data? I only ask because I recently bought a external drive from the Egg and it was already full. I got someone's old drive with their data on it. Just wanted to make sure that didn't happen to you as well. If it's all your data you need to look into setting the backup for incremental.
