Anyone else using this drive? Did you have any reliability issues?

I bought 2 of these 3TB drives to remove from the housing and install inside my PC. I figured I wanted to test them thoroughly before I do that. I am doing a surface scan, but the drive is heating up to 61c and I am only half way through the read test. I have never seen a HDD ever get temps that high.

No errors or anything so far, and on the write test I did last night was clean also and that one hit 58c. Still it's a bit worrisome and I don't know if I can feel comfortable putting data on these drives. I can't see them being reliable over time.

7200rpm in a plastic external case without fan, not really surprising. Why not just buy the internal version ?

It was a bit cheaper at the time (about $18 less per drive vs the internal version). I guess I expected more from seagate. This is a consumer product people are going put backups on and they aren't going to think about checking how hot it runs when reading/writing data. I can see someone backing their system up to this box and it failing in the middle of a restore.

In case anyone was wondering it topped out at 62c by the end of the read test. That is still very surprising to me, I have put older 7200 drives into external enclosures with no fans and they never hit anywhere near 60c. Worst case I think I hit 45c. Well at least I can say I did stress test the drive ;).
