should i buy a Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160GB w/16mb cache if its cheaper than the 7200.7 160GB w/8mb cache.

i havent heard anything about the new 7200.9s so i was wondering if i should just stick with the 7200.7 since it has a plethora of positive reviews?

Stick with the .7's, IMO. The .9s have faster transfer rates due to their higher density, but Seagate dropped the ball on the seek times. The .7 will make a better boot drive, the .9 is probably better for media storage due to the longer warranty.

Where have you seen the .9 160G 16M version? I can't find it on seagate's product list:

BTW, why not getting .8 version?

All Seagate internal hard drives have a 5 year warranty. ;)
Oh yeah. I knew that. :p

Then how about "the .9 is probably better for media storage due to the higher sequential transfer rates"? If this doesn't work out I got nothing... trying to defend the newer Seagates is hard. Maybe they should call these scandalous seek times Seagate-gate.
