Seagate 6TBs incoming

Hmm. I thought they would increase the platter density on those so they could use 5 x 1.25TB platters not 6 x 1TB platters.

I think we'll see 5TB mainstream from WD/Seagate this year and the 6TB dries from both will be more focused on the Enterprise environment to kind of test the waters. At least that's what was promised late last year in the road maps.

I'm really more hyped about HAMR though. Want to see it in action. Storage Wars seem to be no longer as popular with the advent of SSD's. That epic rate we increased density at made me think I might see a 1PB HDD before I die. Now I'll be lucky to see a 100TB one.

*sigh*

First World problems.

when will we get those 5tb consumer drives, tho?

i tend to cycle two sizes of drive as primary and secondary storage, with a new buy replacing the previous high capacity drive and the low capacity recycled into other duties.

atm i have a 1tb + 2tb setup, and i'd like to improve on a 2tb + 4tb setup if possible.

i need space soon!
