I recently bought a ew seagate 400GB EIDE HD 7200/16MB/ATA-100 for my computer..

I have a Abit NF8V motherboard and a AMD 64 2800+ and 1.25gb of ram
the problem I am having is I can get other hard drives to be read as the master, but when I
connect it to either the blue or grey or black or grey ide cables it only reads as the
slave.

I swapped my ide cables and the cd rom continues to be read as a master but the seagate 400gb hd will only be read as a slave. I changed the cables from cable select to master on both ide cables.

I swapped the hard drive with my old maxtor computer and it was able to be read as a master my main problem is I have the 400gb which I want to be read as a master so I can add my additional slave hard drive. I don't know why I can't get it to be read as a master.

Please help me, give me some suggestions and some support as I have tried everything I know, please tell me your input and I will let you know if I have tried it and hopefully one of
you can save me from this problem!!

Thanks,

Check for a BIOS update.

See ABIT's site for your MOBO and the size of drive it can handle.

If nothing is listed contact ABIT support.
