Seagate 1.5 TB SATA Barracuda 7200.11 Internal Hard Drive $106

^ Not too long ago, we were thinking a dime a gig was a very good buy. Soon, we'll be demanding a nickel a gig. Thank you, Moore's Law. :p

Order Date: 2/12/2009
Order Status: Shipped

Woot, and I don't even need another one.

How many of you are actually going to use this Dell/Seagate 1.5 TB HDD vs. selling it for a profit? ;) :p

I will highly likely be using it. :)

Edit: Found out Dell's arrival estimate was way overestimated. UPS will deliver my HDD today, too!

I hate to say it, while Seagate did issue a firmware update, it wasnt the right firmware for some of the drives (SD35 firmware). It wouldnt update the firmware, there is no ETA, or any response from Seagate on when they will issue a working firmware. They just keep closing threads with no answer.

I own 2 of the drives.. while they have been working for now.. Im just waiting for that day they just arent recognized in the bios.

I ordered 12, may only keep 8 or 10, but would rather have a few extras I could sell of easily than not enough

how much profit? not a lot!

the regular price is $130 with free shipping for the egg. It would be very very foolish to pay any thing close to $130 for a 2nd-hand drive :)

I've had mine for a couple days now. It has the CC1H firmware and seems to be working fine. After doing a full format, I dumped a few BluRay isos on it (totaling around 100GB) and it handled them perfectly fine. So far, so good.

Has anyone contacted Dell to attempt a refund on the difference between this and the $83 deal? Success?

Should move this thread to discussion, as it makes me all jump every time I see it. :(

I'm actually torn. I don't NEED this drive per se, so the money would be more desirable.

However...1.5 TB of porn...fwaaahhhhhh maybe I'll keep it. :D

Decisions, decisions! :p

IMO, p0rn > profit. j/k ... maybe not.

I plan on using it. I don't think the profit would really be that great after paying for paypal fees, etc. I only have a 500GB drive in my main desktop right now, so I could use the extra storage.

This thing takes forever to format lol

Why not simply use quick format? I mean, it's a new drive so unless you are using the format process as an error scanner, then it seems pointless to do a full format.

actually it is, you just have to use a different coupon code, i used this one HNP1LLLS?ZKS48

and got it for $105 shipped
I just bought two at $115 (damn tax!) using this code. Would have rather got in on the external ones for $10 more, but that deal ended yesterday...

Subtotal: $82.99
IVA: $6.53
Shipping and Handling: $6.99

Import Fee: --

Total: $96.51

Still heck of a deal... nanananananana to you losers that did not get in on it!

Holy cow, mine arrived UPS today. What the heck am I gonna do with it.

Thats what i did. Now just to transfer all my files over to it tonight is what will take long.

when I posted, the item wasn't even showing up on the site, and I was referring to the $83 deal anyway

Yup, every time I get a new drive I do a full format to make sure its working well.

EDIT: And amazingly, the drive is bad. Would not format past 92%. Any other attempts ended it bad sector errors. :(

damn tax! fucking dell, damnit! :) Big thanks to GameDad for giving me the updated promo code.

I doubt $9 is enough to break anyone, but it does make the deal less hot. You can pick a full retail one up for $130 or less. At $115, $15 savings gets you 2 years less warranty and an OEM drive compared with nearly $25 less for those that got it for $105.99.

not such a hot deal at ~$115, warm maybe

For the record, $105.99 was the price that this thread was started with. Not everyone has to pay tax w/ Dell.

Mine were $110.xx w/ tax. Hot Deal? You show me any other hard drive above 1TB for less than $0.07/gb.

woot

first drive I got had LC1A firmware, second had CC1H

apparently one drive was made on december 30th, and the other on the 29th .. 5 year warranty for me :D:D

Mines also a CC1H. I received it 12PM yesterday and have been testing it since and have yet to have any trouble with it. Sorry to hear that your drive was bad, techie81.

After tasting $83-85, even vicariously, $106 isn't so palatable.

Then by all means wait around for another deal like that. By far there are more people that have gotten in on the deal for the $105.99 price than the people that got the drive for the $83-85 price.

The price drop and the coupon were not supposed to be active at the same time, so I'd almost call that a price mistake.

With 2TB drives in the $280-300 range and 1TB drives in the $80-100 range, these drives with the updated firmware are the best deal you will find per GB.

However my post was directed at the poster complaining about the price being $115 instead of $106. The fact is that the drive is still $106 AC that it has been, the $115 price he was refering included tax. I was just trying to point out that the price still is $106 and not the $115 he was complaining about.

Hah, which is exactly why I always do the same... that sucks. :(
