Scythe vs Noctua

I'm trying to figure out which fans to use with an MCR220 radiator. I'm cooling an 8800GTX and an E8400 right now. After reading what I could find online, the Noctua or Scythe 21F fans seem to be the way to go for high flow/low noise.

Any opinions on either one? I know the Noctua are about $20 each and the Scythe run around $15. At the end of the day though, the extra $10 won't really matter to me.
 
The Noctua's are ridiculously quiet. They are spendy but thats because the build quality is just the best out there.

They are also complete crap for radiators, they simply don't have any oomph to them and lose a lot of their cfm when pushing through a radiator. They are really only good for open air situations.

You also can't just name a brand because Scythe for example makes a number of radically different fans. If price is a concern Yate Loons from www.petrastechshop.com can't be beat in price/performance.

The new Noctua P12 are designed for radiators in mind. What you are refering is the weaker S12 ;)

Which is exactly why I said you can't just name a brand you have to tell us the exact model your looking at.
 
The new Scythe Slipstreams are quite good and are about ~50% of what you'll find the Noctua's selling for.
 
Specifically -

Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F
Noctua NF-P12

Again, price really isn't a concern. After spending $300-400 on radiator, blocks, pumps, etc, the extra $10 for fans won't matter.
 
I have e8400 and MCR220QP rad - I ordered 2 Noctua P12s - the latest versions for radiators. They should be here tomorrow - I will check this setup and get back to you on weekend.
I love how those fans are silent - I had a chance to listen to them.. that is why I ordered them...

Eh. It was 12:30am and I was replying in two threads regarding Noctua fans and forgot to mention the model number in one ;) Cut me some slack!
 
I'm running Scythe F series fans now on my PA120.3. While they are impressively quiet, I wouldn't say they are any better than the Yate Loons from Petra's (you should get them from petra's as testing shows they are better than other yate loons). I would save the $$ and probably go w/ higher speed Yates undervolted.
 
I run all speeds of Scythe S-Flex fans, and absolutely love them. The one Noctua P12 I have is excellent, but it was expensive and I didn't feel justified to buy another.
The reason I select S-flex is for silence and reliability. I've gotten bad Yate Loons, and some have had poorly trimmed fan blades, resulting in additional noise.
 
I have 4 S-Flex's in the door of my CM Stacker Evo, and they are absolutly splendid. Really really quiet [unless you forget to dust the intakes for too long and they eat something].

Plus, those Fluid bearings they have are way cool...I actually found my S-Flex's on NewEgg for a steal of $10 each, but I would gladly buy them again for the $30 they retail for
 
I use only undervolted yate loons... having tried everything but the new noctua's... And They're still my favorite.
