Scythe SCNJ-1000P

I got the hs to replace my stock amd opteron dual core 165 socket 939 cpu. The temps with the stock was like around 48c load. With the new hs with artic silver 5 is now like mid 59's c without fan and like low 50's c with stock fan. Tried reinstalling it second time with less termal compound. Using the termaltake tusnami full tower case with 120mm stock case rear fan and intake. I did have trouble installing it, i moved the hs a lot while trying 2 install. What did i do wrong or is it just crap hs?

That certainly isn't a 'crap hs,' as it's arguably the best one available. I'd say you need to go over how you're mounting it. Remove the ninja, and grab some rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth. Clean off all the thermal paste from both the HSF and proc, then apply the amount of AS5 as is shown in this photo. Next hook one side of the ninja, and then clip on the other side.

This HS is a b!tch to install. It was the first clip-in HS I've had, and wow I'm not a fan.

I ended up bending all the top fins inadvertently from pressing down so hard to keep it from lifting off the past while I was clipping it in. And even then I felt it move around way to much.

It will take some practice to do it right. Don't be afraid to start over and do it again. If you bend the fins they straighten back out pretty easily.

what kind of temps are you getting with your ninja?

The way i installed it both times was to do the 2 hooks on 1 side and then the other 2 hooks. So you want me to bascially do it like an X. Do like the top left then the bottom right then the top right then lastly the bottom left? Also, you know how their is two ways to install the heatsink, does it matter which way you do it? I think both sides look symmetrical.

The way you did it is fine, just try and focus more on the amount of thermal paste as well as cleaning everything off properly. The Ninja isn't a difficult heatsink to install once you've worked out how to do it.

get a buddy to hold it down for you while you snap the clips into place. :p

Did you remove that blue plastic slip covering the copper base that goes over the CPU? I did the first time I got my Ninja and had temps like you. Stupidest thing I ever done.

it's designed for fanless use, so you should be okay.
