I just got the system in my sig set up but I'm very dissapointed with my CPU temps at stock.

I'm getting 38-44C idle, and yes I have reseated and re-applied AS5, it is not the thermal compound or the application. I've done this a thousand times.

My room is 23C and my chipset temperature is 40C.

Is this abnormal? It seems so to me.

EDIT: 43C... still rising

What are your load temps? the FX60 processors do get quite warm (It's the tradefoff for that pretty silver AMD sticker, rather than the orange or green ones :))

Well i have the XP-120 and get better temps than that with an oc of 2.6 so yeah i would say there is a slight problem. Whats the cfm of your fan? It could also be poor air curculation in the case?

FX-60's are exactly the same as the X2 counterparts, but have an unlocked multiplier, therefore are better for extreme clocking... but temps couldn't be any more similiar

Case is open, I've tried a 2000 and 940RPM fans with similar results.

It's probably just a bad motherboard sensor... Or one that's trying to compensate for the inacuracy of most motherboard sensors, adding a few c to the value it reports.

Well it looks like I can't use the Ninja afterall... can't put my side pannel on with it. (Sad thing is I'm using a Stacker 810) I just ordered a Zalman 9500 so I hope that will go well.

With this Scythe fan my idle temps are 40-45, but the fan is also silent. With an Antec fan I have at a relatively high speed (kinda loud) the idle temps are 38-41. Load rarely goes over 52. I did a few runs of Prime95 to heat it up to get the AS5 to cure, and it dropped temps about 4 degrees.

My bet goes to an inaccuracy of the temp sensor. They are notorious for Since it seems well applied, I would maybe just try setting the computer on its back. This would keep the heatsink from pulling down. Doubt it will change anything but you could at least eliminate the possibility of that being the problem. But ya, good luck with the 9500!

I've got my Zalman 9500 in and my temps have barely improved, maybe 2-3C.

I think this mobo just has a bad temp sensor or this FX-60 really does run hot.

EDIT: Ouch... dual Prime95 Small FTTs brings the core temp up to 60C at 1.5v 2912mhz... pretty hot there :(

I removed my Zalman to check the thermal paste application and there was only a small bit on the HSF, looks like there isn't enough mounting pressure, any tips so I can increase it?

Update: I applied an even thinner layer of AS5 using a credit card and my temps went up. If it was providing enough pressure it would've improved temps... :( I've gone from 58-59C load to 61-62C @ 2912mhz(1.5v).

EDIT: Hmm it may be due to the rising temp in my room, its at 77F right now but earlier today it was like 75F.

With temps like that, you could always physically touch the heatsink (ground yourself to the case first) and see whether it feels warm/hot to the touch, it should be fairly warm. If it's not, it's probably safe to assume that either you don't have proper contact between the heatsink and CPU or the sensor is lying.

I had a Ninja + 120mm fan on my 3800+ X2 @ 2.7 and 1.525Vcore and it would get up to the high 50s under dual prime. I've dropped it back to 2.6 and 1.45V and it idles at roughly room temp and runs mid to high 40s full load. So unless your FX is just a really hot chip (which it may be at those speeds and voltages), you should be seeing better temps with those coolers :(

I had trouble getting a thin enough layer with a credit card. It was much easier using an EXTREMELY small amount of AS5, and spreading it very slowly and carefully with a razor blade.

i was disappointed that my idle temps didn't go down when i got my 9500; however, my load never goes above 45 (prime and gaming) so that's good enough for me (before my load would hit 55-60 but never above <65)

current idle is 30-33

Actually at that ambient temp, vcore and speed, your temps are right in line. Better case ventilation would help a bit. If it is stable, forget about it. Nice overclock BTW.
