Hi, I just recieved my scythe ninja and the instructions for it are simple- replace the old bracket with the new one, place the ninja onto it, then put the hooks into place. The problem is, the hooks dont reach the bracket. Theres a pic below. I need to know whats wrong asap so the thermal compound wont dry. if anyone knows why the ninja may be sitting too high, or the bracket too low, I would appreciate it.

What do you mean they dont reach the bracket? Is the heatsink hitting something?

You have to push the clips down to reach the bracket holes. It takes quite a bit of force to do.

You need a lot of force, pushing down on the clips to get them in the bracket.

You should see how hard it was to put my P4 stock fan & heatsink on. I had to press so hard, I thought the motherboard was going to cracnk in half.. then *click*, locked in.

SO many people put the stock intel HS's on wrong because they think they're gonna break something. And then they wonder why they get 60 celcius temps, when teh thing isnt even on right.

Good luck! I Just installed on last week

THANK YOU! I didnt know you had to (or could) apply pressure to the clips themselves.

Haha...yeah, i was beaten to it...same sort of thing happened when I installed my first stock s478 cooler. At the time I really didn't care if I busted a mobo or two, but I can understand now how a lot of people would be skitish about applying too much preasure to the clips/cooler...but this's why we have IHS's people.....use 'em. ;) :p

Well, I got it installed and everything is back up and running. The thing is, I dont know if it made a big difference. My temps are at 40c idle and 50c load. I used AS5 and I'm even using the fan now. I think the sensors may be wrong...is there any way to test that? Any input would be appreciated.

What are your room temps like? I don't think things should be getting THAT warm with the Ninja...unless of course you have poor airflow in your case and/or your room temps are a little high.

I dont know my exact room temps, but they got better once I installed the Ninja. Odd because the PC temps are the same (or say they are). Weird thing is, I get the same temps OCed to 2.2ghz as I do at stock speed. Also I installed the included 120mm fan and it didnt show any change.

Yep. Check newegg reviews for Pentium D chips. It's crazy. People whining about getting 40+ with a 920 or 930 and telling everyone how hot the new 65nm chips are, then bitching at me when I tell them I get 37 under heavy load with the stock cooler.

With my Scythe Ninja that I finally put in on saturday, idle is about 48-52ish.. load it gets up to 67 (full 100% load on both cores). This is on a 805D OCed to 3.6.. At first I thought it was my heatsink - here's a short summary of my adventures:

Case is a p160W
xp-120 installed, w/ 120mm fan (using 3-4 year old AS5).. ~55,56 idle, got up to 72C.. took off xp-120, redid thermal compound.. same temps.. did it again, but this time picked up some "coolmaster nano bond" thermal compound from MicroCenters (they didn't have any AS5). BTW, stay away from Coolmaster Nano bond.. it was like cruddy puddy.. you would put a drop on the CPU, and try to spread it but it wouldn't 'stick' to the cpu and you would basically end up with all of the thermal compound on the spreader. Finally I just put a huge amount on the cpu.. and after spreading it had a nice layer on it.. about 3/4th of the compound went on the credit card I was using to spread it..

put it back together, temps were about 53 idle, 69 load.. Got my Scythe Ninja in.. (which was a pain because I had to remove the XP-120 bracket from the bottom of the MB) used Ceramique w/ it.. anyways, either the 805D's run hot like that.. or my MB is reporting the wrong temps (P5WD2-E premium)..

(edit: room temps are usually 80F + this time of year.. haven't turned on AC yet)

Could be the boards sensors...but those room temps are also a little warm. I know that the 805's do run fairly warm, like most other Pentium D's...but I would think you should still be running at least a little cooler then that.
