OK, I have a Scythe Ninja heatsink that I am installing right now and we did everything right; however, when we put in the mounting bars. We put them in parallel with the processor bar, instead of oppisate side of it. Now the problem is that the four clamps do not reach the four holes completely. If put down even, none of them reach. When two are clamped in, the other two are way above it. The only solution I can think of is to swtich them around however I have to re-do everything. Is this the reason? Should I attempt it? Could it actually make a difference? And also, is there a simple thing I am missing.

LGA 775 Board
And also I did not undo the protectice film from the heatsink base. Could that make a difference even though it is extremely thin?

Help, THANKS IN ADVANCE!

you didn't take the film off the base?

someone slap this guy with the basics of heat transfer.

So the plastic really will matter for about 5-10 cm of room?

And please do smack me with the basics, I have no idea :D

The plastic will greatly inhibit thermal transfer, and can melt or even burn when the CPU is powered. It is absolutely necessary to remove the film.

Ummmm, I think you guys have me all wrong. THe damn heatsink isn't on. Nothing is on. Just the mounting bars. When we ATTEMPT to ATTACH the heatsink. It does not fit the holes. I asked if the plastic could be a reason why it doesn't reach. Could it be?

Have you tried turning it around? Seeing if it fits at different angles? Etc... Maybe it is just seated wrong?

No, that is exactly what we didn't try. Do you think a different angle, even though I'm assuming it's symmetrical would matter?

try to get 1 clip then the diagonal to that.. and then the other 2..

and make sure that ur using the correct screws!! believe me it took me a long time too and then i found out that in hurry i was using the wrong screws... so make sure screws are correct ones and then get 1 clip on, then the diagonal.. NOT clips on the same side first..

Im having the same problem too. Ive removed the white film from the heatsink base but do i have to take of that black adhesive stuff as wel or do i leave that on? If i force the clips i think the black retention plate will snap. There is a huge gap as well. Ive got a pic to show you what i mean. Im using an asus a8n sli premium motherboard.

AY786, you're supposed to force the clips. The force is what holds the heatsink down on the CPU.

the bars wont snap
the fins might bend a little from holding them, but thats ok.
Mounting that giant ass heatsink is a PITA, and having to redo it because you didn't pull the plastic sucks <personal experience>no, the plastic film didn't melt.</personal experience>

Mines ok now, learnt that this thing needs some heavy force and some strong thumbs for this baby to go into place

OK, I got it ON. All it needed was a little force LOL :D

But now there is a new problem. I booted it up and it says there is a CPU error and CPU fan error and it won't let me boot. I'm stuck at the screen where it says "Put in a boot disk and press a key"

Did you put in a boot disk and press a key :D.

I'm assuming you havn't changed any other hardware... and have already installed windows on this setup right?

Your board might just be thinking "Crap, the CPU fan isn't spinning fast enough, so let's not boot"

Are you sure you plugged the fan into the proper fan plug? If you can get into the BIOS, see if you can disable the CPU fan RPM monitoring.
