I have a Dell PowerEdge 2500 and it has a SCSI 33.9GB RAID 5 aray, and it also has a SCSI
73GB RAID I aray. the 73GB has some old work data that i need to backup since i recieved this from my fathers office. the 33.9GB and the 73GB aray both have windows on them. and just installed it on the 33.9GB aray with no problems, now it just boots off the 73GB windows Server 2003 and i dont want to use windows on it, and i would like to back it up. so, my point is, the 73GB RAID I aray is Controller I and the 33.9GB aray is the Controller2 on the SCSI backplane. how do i make the 33.9GB the primary HDD so it will boot off that. i go into the BIOS and it jsut gives me the option to boot either off the RAID controller thats and Adpatec 39160 or the Dell Backplane. I DONT want to boot from the Adaptec Controller, and all 5 of the hardrives (both arrays) are on the Dell Backplane, they are both on the Dell backplane, and when i jsut switch there positions around int he front it has no effect. So, what should i do?

setting. If you change this setting, the change automatically
applies to both SCSI channels.

Condering that i said i DONT and cant use the adaptec 39160 controller because all 5 of the hard drives i am using are in the Dell PERC 3/Di RAID Controller which is the 6 front Backplane Swappable hard drives.

The directions are valid for any scsi controller to set the boot device. However, you're going to need to futz(technical term!!) around with it to find what the actual boot order is. If it's trying to boot off the controller you don't want all the time, you're going to need to figure out how to get it to boot from the other, which may or may not involved switching pci slots to slot furthest up the board on most systems.

I dont think i explained it corretly. The Dell SCSI RAID Controller is the front HDD 80Pin ports known as the backplane. i took out the Adaptec 39160 because i am not using that controller at all. i would like to boot off of a hardrive that is on the same controller as the other hardrive i dont wanna boot off of. there is a bad copy of windows on the harddrive i dont wanna boot off and that is the one that is try to boot first. and the harddrive aray that i jsut formated and got windows onto is the secondary aray, which, unless i take the bad copy of windows hard drive out it wont boot off the 2nd container.
 
You need to go into the Raid Controller's bios an set your 2nd container as the bootable "drive".

Well, thats the poblem, i dont see any options for that when i press Ctrl-A.
 
My normal trick in this situation is to take out all the drives I dont want to boot from.
This forces the system to try and boot from the remaining drive/s.
Then go into the bios and see what the boot order/options are left.

I think you will find the drive boot order is not in the scsi section but in the boot section of the bios.
