I just picked up a 36g Seagate 15k U320 for a steal and I am thinking of building a SFF for a real fun LAN/game rig. Will a SFF system be able to handle the hea/power from this drive. Anyone running a SFF scsi system?

Regards

i know there a handful of SCSI/SFF owners @ sfftech.com , im guessin you want to go with the shuttle sFF, if ya do decide, get one with a 250w psu, and that should take care of a hefty filled SFF... there are a handful of people running two raptors in a RAID config, so im guessing that the SCSI doesnt pull as much power as them two?

Both the Raptors and the 15k SCSI drive only pull 20 watts during power (spin) up. They then hover around 10.5 watts during nominal use. Add a SCSI controller and get a good quality SCSI cable with terminator and you are all set. I'm guessing you bought a Cheetah 15k, so check out the tech specs Here

It pulls no more juice than your typical IDE drive.

Thanx for the tips. I picked up the $35 LSI u160 controller plus LVD cable from newegg and will give it a try.

i have the exact same drive & card.. you will never use a 7200 rpm machine again without thinking about how f-ing slow it is.
