so i just got a Netfinity 5600 8664-3ay and have no documentation or drivers. Now to put my NOS on i need drivers for the scsi controller and i have no clue what model it is and IBM has no support for that model because ITS NOT ON THE WEB SITE, if you go look for the drivers you can not find my model, it is crazy.

So i took the card out to look at the chipset and see if there was any way to figure out what drivers it needs and another problem is that this is my first server i have ever worked with.

by the way i am using WIN 2K3. any insite would be great, and sorry if that was confusing.hehe
 
Doesn't win2k3 use it's own drivers, or can it use drivers for win2k/xp?
 
well i have not tried an install yet because with an inital boot it tells me that there is no scsi BIOS so i thought it would not even be worth it to try because i would need to have the drivers on hand, like when installing WIN and you have to hit F6 for scsi drivers.

keep in mind this is my first time working with NOS's, SCSI and servers. so you know than me.hehe
 
You can try for a home run - hook up the SCSI drive, make sure the bus is properly terminated, etc, then boot from an ATAPI CD-ROM drive (guessing it has at least one ATA/IDE port, although I could be wrong) and hope that the 2K3 CD has a driver for that SCSI HBA on the CD. That worked for my old Tyan S1860 Thunder 100 with an Adaptec 2940UW2 and Windows 2000 Server.

You will need to make sure that the SCSI HBA setting is set to boot the SCSI ID of the HDD you install Windows on, etc.

If however, you get the message that 'Setup could not find any hard drives attached to your computer' message, you're screwed. You will have to find out the make/model of the SCSI HBA (you might be able to get this from the SCSI BIOS program or by looking at the physical chip), then get a drivers floppy for it. You'll need an .inf file, a .cat file, and a file called txtsetup.oem on a floppy disk. Restart setup from the CD, put the floppy in, and press F6 when it prompts to 'Press F6 to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver' and install the driver that way. Setup should then detect the drives and go ahead without a hitch. Good luck!

"SCSI BIOS not installed" means that the SCSI card did not find a bootable drive so it did not stay resident in memory. This is normal when you do not have a SCSI hard drive hooked up.

Looks like that server uses an Adaptec AIC-7897. My guess is that Windows 2003 should have a driver for that built in, but I can't verify that. If not, I'd start at www.adaptec.com and see what they have.
