Screwdriver adjustment on DP390?

I just picked up my second DP930, and it isnt as clear as my first. Ive heard people talk about sticking a screwdriver in the side of their sb930 to improve the focus. Any instuctions or other help would be appreciated.

You can do that, you can also burn your tube. A service manual is a good investment if your going to play ;)
 
Sound advice from BillR. I will also relate my personal experience with you. I'm not sure if it's the same with the DP930, but with my 2141 there are 2 holes on the left side of the monitor. I think the top hole is horizontal focus, and the 2nd is vertical. Using a Sears Craftsman Professional 0x4 screwdriver, I slowly inserted it in the top hole, perfectly straight, until I hit a stop. Then I tried to "catch" the screw, and while at a focus test pattern on Naviset software, I proceeded to adjust the focus by turning the screw. It is VERY sensitive, and you don't really turn your hand as much as you "twitch" or quiver slightly to make the adjustment. What you are essentially doing here is finding the middle...a little bit of turn on either side will put the monitor out of focus, and it's hard to balance it out exactly without turning too far the other way, since it will appear to clear up for a bit while you still have a little left to turn, but then you turn a little more and you realize you turned too far. It takes quite a while to find the sweet spot, but then after that, you have to go to the 2nd hole and do the same thing. You might have to go back and forth between the 2. I cannot stress enough to make sure the screwdriver is held perfectly still and straight during insertion, as you don't want to run the risk of veering off somehow and shorting something else out, so be gentle! It took me a few hours of this to be sure I got the focus as close to absolutely perfect as possible. As long as it wasn't banged up too bad during shipping, this series of monitor should focus quite perfectly, remarkable considering it's a CRT. Also, I would suggest doing this at a resolution of 1600 x 1200 at 85Hz since that's the recommendation. Another suggestion, be sure horizontal and vertical convergence are as good as they can get first, in fact, adjust the other user settings too. And that service manual is always a good idea...though this might be the same case, don't forget mine is a 2141.
