Does anyone know how I can find the diameter and threading fo the screws used in hard drive rails? I'm trying to do something custom but I need longer screws. But to get longer screws I need to know the diameter and threading. It would seem that I could measure the diamter but I don't have anything that precise. All I have is a tape measure.

How can I determine the threading? Do I have to count the number of threads in a certain length of the screw? I think thats how you do it but I can't remember. I went to several local hardware sotres and they couldn't help. Thanks for the help.

if you take a screw with you to a hardware shop they should be able to measure it for you, or have the tool for it, but I wouldn't expect a hardware shop to carry them, I know here in edmonton we have a place called "edmonton Nut & Bolt" and if they don't have it, they make it, ask your hardware lackies if there is a place like that around your area, you might be surprised.

Go to the hardware store, find a screw that matches- it's going to be metric, I think. M4, maybe? If they don't have metric, get a millimeter ruler and measure the screw, then order some screws through the hardware store or an online store.
