is it true that the location of the screw holes of which to attach the psu to the pc differ from brand to brand? does some pc manufactors psu screw holes differ also from standards?

If you are talking about an OEM PC, like from HP or Gateway or someone, yes the screwholes *can* differ, but don't necessarily differ. It really comes down to the model even, because for example full sized Dells use regular sized and holed PSUs, whereas their small form factor optiplexes use propriatary sized ones with no screws. If you go out and buy a PSU, however, the screw holes will be in the same place and it'll work in a standard ATX case

Well I currently have an hp pavilion destop. I was starting to think that the dimensions of the power supply have an impact on the screw holes. Is this true? the psu i'm looking at is 4 inch shorter in length but 4 inch longer in width than the one already in my comp.

FWIW, the pavilion I had used a MicroATX power supply, and it sounds like that's what you've got. You need to shop around for one that is mATXSee This Post for some mATX shopping help

Well in that case you'll be fine with pretty much any normal ATX power supply, yes an Antec Truecontrol 550 will be that size, i'd check the depth diminision however. The screwholes will line up

Hope this Helps

YAY IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All I did was just bent a small part of my case so that my new power supply fits in. Damn, I thought I needed some "special psu" for my hp.

Thanks for your help Vertigo Acid!!!!!!!!!
