screensaver won't start...please help

Ok, so for some reason my screensaver won't start anymore. It just never kicks up. I've heard that if there are certain things running in the background (HID devices/services) that winxp won't ever go into screensaver mode. It's killing my monitor though.

I have a dell 2405 hooked up via dvi and everything looks set right in my screensaver tab. I also have the power settings set to turn off the monitor after one hour (but of course it never turns off the monitor either)

If you're worried about the monitor that much, what's wrong with just pushing the power button yourself?

well...I have to press the power button but sometimes I forget. I just spend clost to a grand on the monitor and I would hate for it to be burned in cause my screensaver won't pop on.

Anybody have any ideas??

try this
reboot into safe mode reset the screensaver
reboot check that screensaver settings are same wait and see if it works
for me its worked 3 times
