Screendoor Effect or Other?

This is concerning the Gateway FPD2185W.

I'm not sure how to explain this, but screendoor effect seems to be the most accurate description. All the colors are fine except for the grays, which appear, for lack of a better word, shiny. It throws off contrast to the extreme in games with dark environments. Is there anyway to fix or reduce this?

That sounds like the sparkly effect of anti-glare coating, not screen-door effect.

So it would just be specific to the anti-glare coating, or could it just be a fluke with this particular monitor?

I had that monitor and it had the same problem. the 2005FPW I have now has it also, but to a much lesser effect.
