Screen corruption when using a DVI cable

Based on extensive lurking of this forum, I purchased a LG204WT monitor. Very happy with it, and in order to get the best picture quality I ordered a DVI cable to connect it to my 9800 Pro. At first, it worked fine, and for a day or two I was reveling in digital picture bliss. But then all the sudden, things went bad.

I was playing WoW, and my PC crashed. Upon reboot, everything appeared normal. While waiting for all the odds and ends of a Windows boot to finish, the screen went hella funky. It's tough to describe what happens. It's kind of like the screens been divided into columns of thin rectangles, and then those rectangles slide over, each one down sliding a bit more, until it looks like the side of an aztec pyramid. This pattern repeats over and over the entire screen, overlapping other patterns. The system does NOT lock up. I can move the mouse around, but it looks like its hopping around from rectangle to rectangle. Obviously, this makes Windows completely unusable.

Rebooting the PC fixes the problem for a few seconds, and then it does the same thing again. Switching back to the analog connection fixes it. Did I get a bad cable, or is this some sort of software thing I can fix on my own?

the same thing just happened with my 2405fp and my 7900gt

and the VGA cable makes the text look like shit.

im wondering if its something wrong with my monitor or the DVI cable, but i dont want to buy another dvi cable to find out (college student)

easier said then done here, most college kids i know have a laptop, and others dont have LCD's
