I got a question about somethin. Here a while back i saw some people in a thread talking about how if they had a scratched CD they just contacted the game developer and gave them their CD key and they would send them out a new copy.

Has anyone done this before and know the proper procedure?

This is what it say's in the AVP 2 manual ( sierra budget collection ).

Quote

To replace your CD(s) please send only the damaged CD and copy of your date of receipt, If less then 90 days. ( if ) after 90 days please include $10.00 ( i assume US ) fee along with the CD(s)

In the UT2003 manual it say's basically that if you don't have the receipt then you will have to pay a nominal fee and you have to send the CD as well.

I believe EA does the same and activision as well ( but they could be just the australian offices ).

Well thats stupid. I thought i could get a couple cd replacements if this was true. Maybe someone else has some insight on this situation. I could of swore a couple of forum guys that had been around for a while told me that if the CD was scratched you could get a replacement for free. Heck for $10 i could probably catch it on the GoGamer 48 hour madness :).

Anyone think that Id would send me a new quake 1 cd? Mines got a fat scratch in the middle, can't read it at all.

disk doctor is your friend, then, rip em to bin/cue to your drive, use dameon tools to load, it is how I do it, otherwise, I would use the disk, set it on the desk, and then forget to put it away, then, it hits the floor, gets scratched and then:'(

I see the way people mishandle their CDs and these questions always blow my mind.

I have hundreds of CDs of music, games, DVDs, etc. and not one of them has a scratch. If I can do it then you can do it. If you have an accident then it is YOUR fault, suck it up and buy a new CD (a car dealer won’t give you a new car just because you had an accident with your old one, right?).

Here are a few tips: PROTECT YOUR CDs. When you are done using them don’t throw them around on each other, put them back in the CD case.

Oh, and don’t use the as coasters, doorstops or Frisbees either...

Believe me i am the most anel person on the planet so i dont mishandle my CD's lol. The problem is is that i have had them for quite a while now and i have lent them to my nephew and friends a few times. I have sinse stopped that and only send them COPIES :). But anyways i've got a few that work fine but i just want to get rid of those hairline scratches on them. I've seen a few products out there but which ones actually work?

why not just try tooth paste? it may sound weird, but it has worked wondered on all my scratched cds.

Anybody know whats in that disk doctor liquid?

Very strange that I had a dream about disk doctor this morning LOL;)

Talk about strange dreams, I had one that the [H]ard|Forums Search was back up. No joke. Wierdest thing ever to dream about.

Anyway, I heard that the magic potion in the DiskDoctor bottle was distilled water, and from using it personally I wouldn't be at all suprised. Next time I get down to the store I'm going to pick up another bottle and verify it.

Ha ha, indeed... but still, no BS. I just take care of my cd's and put them back in their cases when I am done with them. So yeah, I've never had to fix any of my cd's.

It can be done. Just sayin'...

I dont HAVE to fix any of them because they all work fine. I haven't thrown them on the ground and ground the leg of my chair around on top of them or anything. I just want to get rid of those hairline scratches that you can see if you hold them up to the light. Those scratches are nearly impossible to keep from getting even if you take care of them. The slightest little ill movement of the cd even when putting them back in the jewel case can make them. I've seen junk all over store shelves that says it will remove the scratches, i just dont know what the best stuff to use is. I dont want to spend a fortune on distilled water in a bottle that doesn't do anything so thats why i asked :).
