I got a new case and scratched the 5h!t out of it. Anyone have any inexpensive ideas on how to cover up scratches on a piano black antec sonata case? I just got this case for my birthday ... <grumble>.

Sounds like an excelent oportunity to make your case a color possibly not offered by Antec. Hit the hardware store for some spot putty to fill in the scratch, some wet/dry sandpaper in various grits, spray paint {primer and a new color of your choice} and fix that bad boy right up. A great excuse for a new mod.

If they're just surface scratches, you can probably use some auto rubbing compound.

on my black cases i usually just use a sharpie, works pretty well

WTF did you scratch it up for? Bored or something?

On a serious note...yeah...do what they said. Fill in der scratches, then paint her up nice and purty.

Sharpie works, or car's touch up paint.....If it is a lot of small scratches rubbing compound might work.

There's not much room around here to work on a computer. I placed a piece of wood over my bed to give me space to work with and didn't realize there was sharp metal on the wood.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I'll see what I can do today

heh... My Sonata is beat up... Unfortunately, it gets scratched pretty easily.. Not to mention that I brought it to a small LAN party once and some dude keyed it (lol... Why didn't he just go for the car, why!? :D).

What sandpaper grits would I need? I've got 220. 320, and 400 laying around waiting to be used for soemthing.

Anything else I should look out for if I try to repaint it?

I tried a sharpie and it covers it up but it's still clearly scratched. Maybe spot putty + sharpie will work out. I really like the piano black and have no idea what I'd paint it if I had the choice.

That all depends on how glossy you want the end result to be. The shinier you want it, the finer grit sandpaper you will need. 2000 for a super shiney finish, but you will need to slowly progress up to the 2000 grit.

Any thoughts on how to reproduce the glossy image the Sonata comes with? Maybe I can work with it and get the results I'm looking for, although I want to keep buying and waste to a minimum.
