Scratch Built All-in-one Case? Ideas?

Background:
I bought a little Gateway all in one pc a couple years back on Craig's List for a few hundred bucks. It's not much, but I've grown to love the little thing. It has everything I could want for a little browsing machine like a card reader, dvd burner, wifi, MCE remote, and a nice 2.1 system built in. It's a beautiful piece of engineering that I'm sad never caught on.


Problem:
I want something bigger and better (17" screen is too small, I want Vista), but keeping with the same style of this Gateway as much as possible. I have a Dell 2405 sitting around that I'd like to use for this project.

Requirements:
Micro ATX Mobo
Good 2.1 Sound System
Room for a decent PCI express video card
Wired and Wifi, slot load DVD burner, card reader, IR receiver


I want to probe the forum for ideas. How can I do this? Metal? Acrylic? Fiberglass? Here are a couple pics of the Gateway I referred to above.

1) Add on video cards and slim-all in one PC's that look like your gateway don't go together

I hope you get my point. Simply, if you want good gaming performance, ditch the all in one thing. Otherwise, you can do pretty much anything else on built in graphics (besides maybe some HD work...)
 
Not true anymore, there's an item coming out shortly that lets you add a PCI-e card externally (seen here)

If you consider the size & shape of your unit when making this and cut yourself a slot that the device rests into and blends in, then it could still appear to be an all-in-one affair, simply with the graphics card at a different angle to normal.

The Gateway uses a standard sized ATI video card connected via a riser card so that it lays parallel to the mobo. The tuner card is connected the same way. That being said, I may use embedded graphics to simplify things.

my school has these plastic stands that look like your lcd stand and the piece on the back holds a sff dell. Lcd just sits in the front. You could look for one of those stands. There are a couple of matx boards that are out or soon to be out that you can upgrade the video on also.
