So.. I scored me a Sapphire 6970 for $280 bucks at microcenter, it was returned, but at that price, considering I was gonna hold out for a 7850, I decided to snatch it.

I think I did a great thing. Card seems to work Just fine!! :D

and if he's going to rain on his parade, its custom to use extreme sarcasism like so:

Dude, I went to wal-mart today and picked up a pack of gum. It was $0.87 cents. It was returned, but, I figured for that price I couldn't go wrong. I was debating holding out for my next paycheque so I could afford to buy the jumbo pack that's suppose to go on sale next week for $1.23 but when I saw that $0.87 price, I splurged. I'm very happy with my decision.

Congrats on the good deal to the OP though.

@Elmy .... YOU MAD BRO?!?!? :eek: :p (j/k)

Thanks guys, I am excited! So this card I was worried about with it being a return and all...

Pfft... Thing is just fine, It seems to even OC fine (AMD Overdrive maxed 950 on the core)

Real reason for posting... it was a return, and I have horrible luck with returns most of the time. If it explodes I have a place to post the aftermath.

LMAO ... I'm not mad. I know your excited about your new purchase. Hopefully you will enjoy it to the max. Right now I'm running a 6990 + 6970 because of my 3 monitors and certain games like BF3 where I need as much horsepower as possible.

Just watch out on the overclock you might have random crashes @ 950/1450 during playing games but it will run fine to benchmark on 3Dmark and Heaven. I've seen it happen to alot of ppl.

You still have full warranty -- if it explodes you bring it back and they give you a new one, or if it takes longer than a month to decide to explode you RMA to the manufacturer. No reason to worry over it being open box. Could've probably saved $50 or so buying used off the forums here (still under warranty) but there's a measure of comfort knowing you can return it if it shits the bed early on I do understand.

haha =P Yes it is very nice I am enjoying it! I mean, really I am just playing like, SWTOR, D3 beta, Skyrim, Civ, etc nothing too taxing so it should serve that purpose really well.

Nice trifire setup! If I had three displays that would be like a dream setup!

Yea it actually got a little warm in the front room today, so I backed off a little bit.. as said above not like I even really need this much on a 1080p display.

I was REALLY surprised at the performance hit in SWTOR though with 8xAA / MSAA etc forced. Still tweaking with it. I will say Damn does it help the Jaggies though!!

Exactly what I was thinking...

It might of been possible to get one off the forums for even a bit cheaper, But yes, if it does pack it in suddenly I can still take it to the store in a pinch for a little while.

280$? Did I miss something?

I got my HD 6970 for 180$ almost a year ago..

Sounds like a whole lot of people didn't have stable overclocks. Both my 6950's ran that overclock stable so I would think that a 6970 should be able to hit it stable.

Running through 3DMark11 or even Heaven doesn't mean an overclock is perfectly stable; I learned that through experience.

WOW...

Just found out... I am getting laid off next month. Ain't that a B!!!! Might have to take this card back.

I have suspected I might be getting outsourced (read : Indianized), but I didn't think it was going to happen this soon. Gotta love IT...
