i seriously dont know whats going on i have a antec sonata. I have the full copper zalman fan with artic siver on the case and using the provided back fan. the reader from asus+mbm5 say that the case is at 25 but my motherboard gets hot like a constant 54 cel. I believe i have a prescot. ok so when it starts up its around 44. My sister was playing some game for about 2hours and when i came back i sware it was at 88c. i might have misread it but im just freaked that my cpu will fry. I have a 3.2 2X512 of pc3200 and a 128 9800 pro. WHen i felt around the videocard was warm. :confused: like its ok now its about 41 right now, but when i play games it jumps super high
 
is your Zalaman fan one of those annoying "smart fans" that ramp up it's speed after it's already too late? I had a TT fan that did this and my old 2.8C would always get really hot when gaming. If it is a smart fan.. try a regular fan, or disabling the smart feature.
I also installed a second 12cm fan in my sonata for additional airflow. it keeps the chips pretty comfortable in there.
 
i was using both mbm5 and asus product, but i think i read it wrong. It just makes me so mad when the temps go up to 55ish when playing games. Do u think u can explaiin where the second possible fan is located? i have this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-118-108&depa=0 but its all copper or this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-118-113&depa=0 but anyways i notice that it always spins at a constant 1488 rpm regardless of temp. I really dont know if its a smart fan or not. If it is how do i disable smart feature. I bought the zalman because it is sppose to be good and quite. Can u recomend a quiet one?
 
did u install the little black switch on it? cuz u can regulate the RPMs with that, on full it runs on 2400rpm on slow somewhere around ~1350rpm. no it doesnt have smart technology, u just regulate it urself. unless ur motherboard has smart fan thing then the fan doesnt change its rpms.

55ish isnt alot for a prescott 88ish is a bit high. I used to have my 2.53northwood go to ~75 degrees when running prime95. that reminds me download that program and run it, then see what ur temps are if they reach 80+ then i suggest try reseathing the heatsink or something.

The Asus motherboard uses quiet fan technology. Disable it in BIOS. Discard the fan speed controller for Prescott CPU's. Plug the fan directly into the mainboard CPU fan header.

That should correct your temps.

what if im getting these temps on a northwood?
 
ok well this is quite interesting becaue i had the little black thing plugged in, but my bios had it on disable for quiet control. I set it to enable and tried 15/17 but it made no difference so i reset the computer and it went back to disable. SO i unplugged the little black thing and the fans running at 2700rpm. my computer is at a nice 37/26 (cpu/case). Ill play some games and see it this fixed the problem.
 
wow i just got a spike in my fan movement to over 9000rpms ahh! BTW is there a way to increase powerfan or chasy fan rpms?
 
On an Northwood those temps are high, on a Prescott those are acceptable load temps. I idle between 37-41 depending on room temp and load at 54, that is with several hours of heavy gaming or DVD encoding. Don't worry about it if it's a Prescott.

i think i have a prescott then cause idle is aruodn 38 and when im gaming its at 55ish or so. Im just thinking now what type of damage did my comptuer recieve from running constanly at 80+ degs for about 30hours?
