Scaling on TV or GPU?

I have an LG LCD TV from the 2009. My video card is a 580gtx. I wanted to know should I set my drivers to perform scaling on the display or the GPU?

Would my TV have better scaling then the 580? I am thinking the TV would be pretty shitty when scaling on a PC no?

What do you guys think?
 
You can try them both out and just see if you can tell the difference. I'm guessing the GPU would be faster, TVs tend to do a lot of processing that adds latency.

I always thought a TV would have worse scaling then a computer monitor and I should just let the GPU do it.
 
generally no, no and no
you should use 1920x1080 to play games and do not scale anything :eek:

and if you must do it then gpu scalling will be better because it will probably have lower latency and generally scalers on TVs are crappy. Not crappy because they are less advanced but quite opposite, they try too hard while GPU use plain simple bilinear filtering which most often looks superior :D

only one exception against gpu scaling would be if it was TV without option to disable overscan which means that TV wouls scale picture anyway and first scaling it to 1920x1080 by GPU and then do overscan would look worse than when TV would scale from whatever resolution you have to use. Anyhow you should disable overscan if there is such possibility

and do not use lower resolutions in games than 1920x1080 !!!!!!!
