This is sort of a warning for ppl that use sbc yahoo dsl. I originally signed up for 1.5/128 under a 1-year 26.99/mo promotion. After the contract ended the price upped to the regular 49.99 with a free 384 upload upgrade. I just found out from a friend that they've only charging (started recently) 26.99 for 1.5/384 as long as you just create a new contract. 3.0/512 is only 36.99-39.99. I've been paying 49.99 for something about half the speed of the 36.99 plan. They never notified me of the price change =(. Overpaid for about 4 months. Not that bad I suppose. 3.0/512 next week.

cable > dsl

unfortunately not in my area (san francisco). cable is up to 3.0 also, but the upload is still only 256 max.

call and complain

threaten to cancel if they don't give you the same price as new subscribers and try to push for a credit for overpaying for the past 4 months

be persistent and ask for a supervisor if needed

i think they blocked port 80 for me too, haha, bastards

Heh, they don't have to call and tell you they have other plans, especially why would they if there were making mroe money off of you? Just call them up and say you'd like to sign a new contract.

I had sbc and after the contract opted to go with cable. The missus and I have cell phones so the dsl plus the otherwise useless phone service cost us about $70 a month. Cable internet is only $30, so the choice was a no-brainer. The real fun started when we called to cancel the account. Within a few days we got a due-on receipt bill which we paid. A few weeks later they sent another notice claiming we owed another $18, and that if we didn't pay immediately, it would be forwarded to a collection agency. I'm guessing the $18 is late fees or interest, but I've never seen such charges so high when we were customers. Now I'm wondering if there is going to be another charge tacked on.

We use cell phones as well so DSL would be a waste. Plus Verizon's plans suck a big one.

I have Brighthouse Roadrunner for 34.95 a month I get 5mb down/ 3XX up.
I'm more then happy.
