SB75G2 - X800XT PE - Help

Ive just recently upgraded my 9800XT to a X800XT but ive had a few problems since upgrading. Since reinstalling I have installed CS (not CS:S) and BF2 Demo and Ive found that I keep freezing after a random amount of time in CS. I have the latest gfx drivers, latest chipset driver, latest sound drivers, and my gfx card isnt overheating because it runs idle at 30 odd and a max of 50 odd. Yet it still keeps freezing in a game that isnt that graphically chellenging.

Heres the funny thing, I play the BF2 demo on max settings with 4x AA and it doesnt crash....well it hasnt yet anyway, and Ive played them both about the same amount. Yet it does on a game that was made in 1999! As soon as I go into CS i can see some dodgy texture flashing and after a random time I freeze and my scrren flicks off and on, off and on until I just have to restart. One time it did it and VPU recovered and I managed to play on, then 5 mins later it crashed and I had to restart.

Some people have told me it could be that the Gfx card isnt getting enough power, but I read in a review that the X800XT PE draws marginally less power than the 9800XT which was my previous card! And even if it was this, why would BF2 run fine and CS crash, ud expect BF2 to crash well quick with the settings i have it set on.

Other things ive tried is downgrading to Omega and Cat 5.5, none worked, same probs. I also disbaled Fast Writes, also no difference.

If anyone could help me on this it would be helpful. Here is my spec:

Shuttle SB75G2
P4 3.2 Ghz
2GB DDR400 Ram
X800XT PE (Not OC!)

One more thing, one of my friends has the same spec as me except with less memory and a 3ghz proc not 3.2 and his CS runs fine

There could be something wrong with the video card itself. You can try re-flashin the bios to check if that fixes the problem.

Did you buy the card new or used ?

I think we need more information than that. Try a few more tests. Check IDLE/LOAD temps and check your ram. Is the Molex connected to the video card loose ?
 
Its a brand new card.

I gave the idle/load temps (30 odd idle up to 50 load), and if it was the card being faulty why would it not crash in BF2 faster? Being a more graphically challenging game. I dont think its my ram because things were working fine before I upgraded the gfx card.
 
Lets say it is my psu, would it make a difference if I updated to a PC40? Isnt it the same watt as the default one in the SB75G2?

I've been told by someone who said he had my exact problem and it was the PSU, I just want to make sure if I do upgrade to a PC40 that it will actually make a difference!

That might solve your problem. Although, I doubt that the psu could be the problem since you can run BF2 fine.
 
Thats what I originally thought, but the person who also had my problem said that on some games he crashed and on others he didnt. Something to do with the way the game requests graphics maybe?

Im not sure tbh, I just want it fixed, if anyone has any other ideas im listening:) Is the PC40 more powerful than my default one in my Sb75G2? And if so will it be a substantial enough difference stop the power issues?
 
Only 50c load temps on an X800XT, in an SFF rig? Very doubtful...unless you have SERIOUSLY modded the cooling on that thing....My SFF rig before I modded, the gpu would run at 85c !!!!!! (perfectly stable I might add).

Now with some small and effective mods, I hit highs of 72c or so duting extended sessions....well under any worrysome issues because the gpu's on those cards are rated for up to 90c......that's from ATI's own specs....
 
My vote is for the power supply.

Upgrade to the 250W PSU.

I am running a similar SFF with no problems:

SB75G2 with 250W PSU
P4 2.4C overclocked to 3,300 at 1.55V Core
2 x 512 MB Corsair XMS4400C2.5PT at 275 FSB
ATI X800 Pro flashed and overclocked to X800XT
 
My previous card (9800XT) used to run at the temps you were on about but my new one (X800XT) runs alot lower temp, normally when i boot up windows and sit browsing the web etc it will sit about 38 ish, up to about 43 the other day when it was boiling hot outside. When im in CS it goes up to about 47 ish and when i run constant tests in 3dmark it goes up to mid 50s max! Havent really checked in BF2, but I think its about the same as 3dmarks temp. I dont have any modding, but I also dont have anything overclocked.
 
Just another thought, try doing a fresh installation of Windows. That might help.
