Has anyone found a review of the Recon3d cards from a reliable website yet? I want to see a pro's opinion. But it seems SB must be tight as a prison anus and not handing them out cause you don't see any reviews out there.
 
I think that's because the general interest level in dedicated sound cards is at an all time low (besides audiophiles who love the ASUS brand cards).

Most people are content with on-board sound. Plus the specs for the Recon3d cards are really not that impressive at all , its a weird hybrid of gaming centered options and audiophile "like" requirements like a built in headphone amp that is rated to drive 600 Ohm cans.

The real truth is which 3d simulated surround do you prefer , CMSS or Dolby Headphone? If its CMSS , go with Creative. If its Dolby Headphone grab an ASUS card.
 
I haven't seen any comprehensive reviews but the few I've seen seem to indicate it's a downgrade from something like a Xonar STX or your Ti HD. (which is what most people were guessing from the specs/looks anyway) Really not sure what the point was, given the prices their older cards were fetching.
 
I think in the next 3-5 years external Amp/DAC's will over take dedicated Pci-e solutions for most people (besides production work) that are interested in better than on-board audio.

I think Creative just lives in a fantasy world where they still think its the mid 90's.
 
This thread was discussed at some length earlier on. From all accounts, the Recon3D is aimed more at gamers rather than audiophiles and is a watered-down version of the Titanium HD to some extent (and even the older Titanium Fatality series). Lots of discussion and links in the thread.

On my latest build I opted for the older Titanium Fatality Champion ( which I had used for other builds and enjoyed) but even the newer version of it has been watered down from the original--no longer THX certified and shipped with cut-down software--did not know that until I ordered and received it. I like the front panel I/O drive but didn't consider the Recon3D Champion a particular upgrade. It also has the front panel I/O drive. I do see the discrete soundcards leaving the scene except mostly for the audiophile crowd. Onboard sound keeps improving and DACs are simpler. Creative drivers through and through are a literal beast. Hope I can keep the newer Titanium up and running like the old one--it was always a chore!

I own the ASUS ST and haven't notice these with any of my headphones. Clear as a bell for me. Could be people are experiencing grounding issues with there PSU.
 
All headphone amplifiers using the TI TPA6120 will have an output impedance of ~10 Ohms unless the manufacturer adds a resistor to lower the output impedance. This is the case with the Xonar ST(X), the Fiio E9, the DIY QRV09, and more. It depends on the impedance and the frequency response vs. impedance of your headphones to determine whether or not this will be audible.
