I am in need of sff pretty quickly as i am moving into a smaller place and want to conserve space and would really like to build a itx setup. I mainly fps game (black ops & bc2) and burn movies. while i like the pricing on SB no one knows when a decent itx will be released so I am wondering if i should go to a i3 for a little bit until everything is released and others have done the testing.
 
Looks like the ITX boards will be released by the end of the month. Is that too long to wait?
 
no not too long but asus is out cause i dont want to have to buy new memory. really hoping for the gigabyte boards but no one has reviews.
 
If you can wait for Sandy Bridge motherboards, you'll be grateful later down the road because you won't have to upgrade for a while. SB is a superior architecture to the i3. Up to you of course, but I recommend a 65W TDP version because of the small case.

That said, have you selected a case yet? I recommend the Lian Li PC-Q11.

You can fit a regular power supply, video card, 2 hard drives, and DVD burner in this case. There's a thread in this forum dedicated to it if you want to ask others.

Normally, I also recommend Shuttle (owned 2 of them), but they are so slow to bring new products to market that you'd be waiting too long, unless you decide on i3--which they have.

No one has reviews on any ITX SB board that I have seen, with possible exception of the Intel. But the ECS board is out (and OoS), and boards from Zotac,Gigabyte and Foxconn will be released soon. So there will be choices using full DIMMs.
 
i guess i will wait till the end of the month to see what drops. not too far away but damn that extra xmas money is burning a hole in my pocket lol.

i am trying to decided between the q11 and sg05.
 
I think it is all down to how much space you want to save and what will be the GPU. In addition how much are you willing to spend. I got i5-760 in a Lian Li Q08 m-ITX build with HD6870. so it saves space and there are hardly any compromises made.

Point being, you can easily go i5 (SB or not) unless you build in a really small case with not so good cooling.
 
trying to use as much from my old rig as possible. have a 5850 that i plan on using. would the sg05 450 power supply be enough for the 5850 2500k sb and 2 hd's?
 
[H]'s review of the 5850 had their oc'd i7 setup at 357w for their load test so you should be ok.

I am currently running the 1156 version with an i3 540 and the box has been rock solid since I assembled it.

Btw for the 5850 and the 450 watt silverstone, I am running the i3 540, 5850 and a bluray drive rock solid int he 300 watt version, so you should be golden.
 
thanks for the replies everyone! I dont live next to a fry's or microcenter unfortunately =( even if i got someone to get me one it would be around the same price as having to pay the same amount from the egg.
