SB Live! 5.1 Help...

I just got my Logitech z640's (5.1). It has three connectors...one green for front channel, one black for rear channel and one orange for center channel. As you can see on my sound card, I have the green and black...but the yellow one is what's puzzling. It says "Digital Out" on it...I've hooked up the center channel to it, but it doesn't work.

My card is a 5.1, but where is the center channel? If it's the "Digital Out", why won't it drive the center channel?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D
 
Then my mobo say it has 6 channel...but only has 1 speaker out and SPDIF out...how the hell am I supposed to utilize that?? :rolleyes:
 
I still have my sblive manual, the diagram shows their cambridge sound system taking the two inputs, and then the front/rear speakers plugging into the center channel as well.

So my guess is that the center channel is just the front and rear channels mixed, so if you *really* want your center channel, your going to have to rig a pretty messy adapter.
 
What is the model number of the Live card you have?
If you have the 4 channel card the digital out does not function as an analog jack. If you have the Live 5.1 card the digital out also services the center sub channels in which case it should work.
As far as the integrated audio on your mother board goes..... did you ever read the manual?
The line in and mic jacks are dual purpose jacks.
They also function as speaker outputs.
 
You'll also need to enable CMSS, (can be done from the Play Center) , to engage the center speaker.

Provided that you don't have the " Value" and do indeed have the 5 channel as the Moderator has said.

Just pulled it out...did some research...apparently it's a 2nd gen (CT4830) Live! Value 4.1 as you suggested :(

I got the onboard working 5.1, but I'm wondering about a performance hit...it's the ALC655 chip...I don't have the $$$ for a new sound card (Audigy) right now. Can anyone suggest a cheap 5.1 card, or should I just stick with teh onboard?
 
Check out the AV-710 on newegg.
It is about the best sub $30 two channel audio card I have ever seen. In fact for a stereo source it rivals the Audigy2 ZS in quality.
The only downside is it doesn't do much better with a mulitchannel system then that POS you linked above.
 
Oh well...I'm going to go with an Audigy LS for $50...just have to scrape it up somewhere...
 
One comes in a purdy box and the other comes in a white one. Thats all. I'd pay the extra buck for the official box.
