I exported an OVF with the intention of saving the VM a while ago. Today hosed the VM, and I thought - no problem I have a backup.

I haven't played with this enough in my little home lab, so I hope this can be fixed. I know you should always disconnect ISO's before exporting, but made the mistake anyway. I exported the VM, I still had a mounted ISO attached. There weren't any errors when I eaported it, but when I try to import the OVF i get an error saying it couldn't find the mounted ISO.

Is there anyway I can strip the ISO and import this?

So I made a mistake, it was an OVA that gets exported. And after a bit of reserch, I found that an OVA is just a tar file of an OVF, MF (md5 checksum file), VMDK and the attached ISOs.

So I was able to unpack the OVA.
Delete the ISO.
Delete the MF (checksums were going to be different).
Edit the OVF to remove references to the ISO and the CD/DVD drive.

Then I could successfully import the OVF directly. I may have been able to just cope a fresh ISO file, but I didn't want it there anyway so I didn't bother trying.
