Save $400 on HDD Order?

I'm in dire need of some 3TB drives to replace the 1TB Drives I currently have, so I was at Newegg looking through their 3TB Internal Hard Drives and saw that the Seagate Barracuda XT ST33000651AS SATA 6 HDD is selling for $399 each...ouch!!!

Since they are still so high in price, I decided I'd try to find an external USB Drive of the same size and, in my research, saw a few reports that the Seagate external USB Drive contains the exact same Seagate Barracuda XT ST33000651AS SATA 6 HDD and is selling for only $199

Hmm...If that's the case, I think I'll take 2, please. Order placed.

If the reports are true, that's $400 saved. If they are false, I still got the 3TB Drives I needed so I'm happy. (though I'd be even happier if they are, in fact, the 64MB cache SATA6 version)

Will update thread when they arrive.
 
yeah you obviously go for the external cause they hold same harddrive but when it dies you have to put it all back together and htere's only a 1 year warranty on those i'm presumming.

there are some 3tb floating around in this forum bare hdd's not sure on the warranty though
 
A lot of the externals, WD, Seagate, have had expensive drives in them. For example, the $70 deal at Costco during BF where the 2TB in side the Seagate external was a Barracuda Green, retails for $160.
WD Elements 2TB people are finding some have 2TB Caviar Blacks. They bought those for $90 at Target,etc.


But good luck, and its not a BAD deal...
