After thinking about the "games you wished people still played thread" i was reminded of Savage... and decided to go check it out, and see if they even still had a website up....

turns out they're making a sequel.... and have put the original game up as freeware :eek:.

And I've already preordered Savage 2, which should be coming out in the next few months. There should be a beta. Preordering will get you into the beta first.

S2games is one of my favorite companies in the industry. They release a Linux client AT LAUNCH, develop on open GL, do not have draconian DRM or copy protection schemes (even Savage 2 will be totally FREE to play the tutorial or on a LAN, you only need to buy a CD key to play online with stat tracking etc..) and price their games affordably ($30 for a CD key instead of 50).

I highly suggest everyone on the [H] who likes hybrid FPS/RTS games like Natural Selection and those that like Battlefield/QuakeWars/UT2K4 etc... think about purchasing Savage2!
 
Yea they had this big promotion last year saying that if you pre-ordered, you would get into the beta that summer (summer 06), so of course I jumped on the chance, only for the game to get delayed and have no news updates available, they finally offered people their money back if they wanted, but I am still waiting. Hopefully the pre-beta ends soon, cause didnt they only pick like 20 people? or did they finally add some more?

I WANT THE FRIGGIN BETA NOW!!! lol :) or at least I want the game to come out hehe :D
 
There's something in the range of about 300 people in the prebeta. They're still working on the kinds of bugs and issues that will be too obvious to bother leaving in the beta and hearing about a thousand more times.

It's looking good so far. Don't expect Savage 2 to be so incredibly similar to Savage 1. Think of it as a different game made as a homage to Savage 1.
 
Why is it a great game? Because one of the guys who owns the dev company is a porn mogul. :cool:
 
Woah woah woah... I have my preorder sealed and await the beta and I never knew that! Which of the devs is a porn mogul?!
 
Co-Founder Marc DeForest owns(ed) a large online porn company. Not sure if he owns it anymore its been a couple years since doing business with them but it was one of the bigger and older ones ARS.
