SATA1/2, and Boot data loss

my HDD's consistently lose important windows data, over and over about every week. My first set of disks, Seagate Barracuda's in a RAID Mirror'ed set would lose core windows files, from boot directories to my password, pretty much on a weekly basis. I literally smashed the drives with a sledge hammer one friday night; Stopping the WoW addiction is deadly.

My Second pair of disks that I just bought, a Pair of Western Digital WD1600JS's (SATA2, jumpers correctly placed for SATA1), also in RAID mirrored. They just pulled the same shit that my Seagate's did for so long. My Boot.ini just disappeared. After trying Fixboot, fixmbr, and trying to boot each drive seperately, I've about given up. I have no idea what the problem is, or why drives on my computer keep losing data. I can't boot, and I really, really don't want to format and loose all my ripped CD data... again.

What's bizarre is that this data loss occurs after regular shutdowns; I turned off the computer, after playing oblivion, slept, went to work, and tried booting up last night. This is pretty much the same scenario i've had before; regular operation, and then *poof* something just... goes.

Is this a RAID controller issue? If so, i've been running the latest drivers since my board (asus A7X8N-E Deluxe) released a few years ago; they havn't been updated. Nothing is overclocked.



please help me... I can post any necessary trial and error runs, specs, or whatever you guys need to wave the magic wand and be done with this problem, for good!
 
You might try an add-in sata card; they're only $15 or so on Newegg, and they're handy to have around for debugging purposes sometimes. That'd give you a different driver, at least.

Except that the onboard on the A7N8X is sil3112 as well :rolleyes: Well, it'll be a slightly different driver, at least.

You might also check for power supply problems; ask for help if that statement isn't self-explanatory and I'll elaborate.
