I just got my Abit MAX3 board n im running athlon 64, 3200 on it. Im trying to set up ONE SATA HD (wd 160gig) but when i try and oad an OS into it, it tells me there isnt a HD. I cant load the SATA driver from the floppy. Bios sees that i have a HD but it wont specify the am outn of GIg in it? Any know how to set up SATA? Yes I have read the book, but the Abit book has got to be one of the worst written manuals ever.

Welcome to the [H]ard!

Hmm I have the IX7-G MaxII and had similar problems.

I wasnt trying to install the OS, I had my IDE HDs with a Serillel Adapter on them. Make sure its plugged in to SATA 1. Then I flashed my BIOS with the latest (v22 I think) and it fixed me right up! Hope that helps!

u can't spell, no wonder you can't read a book, lol.

No really... when you ask for help try to be a bit considerate and spell every thing right and all that because I hardly know what your problem is. And leave the specs of your system as well.

Why can't you load the driver from floppy? That's the problem.

boot from cd, when it says hit F6 hit F6 and wait, it will ask you to supply a floppy with the drivers.

If you don't have the floppy with drivers, go to the web and download drivers off Abit's site.

you will be prompted to hit F6 if you want to load any additional SCSI drivers...do so

also In the BIOS select SCSI in the boot order
and there may even be additional BIOS option (not sure with that board) but without a PATA HDD it should default to the sole HDD anyway

add in IDE\ATA controllers, RAID cards ect employ SCSI Drivers
and its implemented that way in many BIOS currently

the problem here is that there is no "standard" for SATA BIOS options, mobo manufacturers select different schemes (from the BIOS manufacturers Award, Phoenix ect)

some have SATA listed in the boot order, others SCSI
some have an option for Bus Manager or other weird options when you have more than one drive (a PATA on the onboard IDE Channel and an SATA) and you dont want to boot to the onboard IDE

its confusing, which is why, what he did, specifically ask someone who has that board, how its done, was a smart move

he shouldnt need drivers. The ic7-max3 uses the 875p chipset which has native sata support. He needs to enable it in his bios.

I remember someone at my job came in with one of those mobo's and one of those fancy 10K 36gig SATA drives....He couldnt get the fugger to install XP. There was something I did in the bios, unfortunately I am forgetting, I mean it was friggin stoopid. Lemme check with the guy and ask him again. Sorry for posting with no info, i'll reply tho if I get the answer! Oh and Abit is worthless on this btw, he called them and they had no clue, go figure!

Go into your bios, goto Integrated Peripherals, then select OnChip IDE Device, at the bottom of that page it has the settings for the SATA ports. Set it to auto and it should work now.

I'm having a similar problem with my friend's computer. Neither BIOS nor WinXP recongize the hard drive. It's a Seagate Barricuda 160GB SATA and the motherboard is an Abit AN7. The onboard SATA controller in enabled but the HD isn't being detected. I also don't have a floppy drive.

Specs:
Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2200mhz
Abit AN7
512MB Mushkin Basic Green DDR400
Seagate Barricuda 160GB SATA HDD

Thanks for the help.
