I'm looking at two Hitachi Deskstars, and one is SATA while the other is SATA II. The SATA II drive is 3$ more. I'll just be using the hdd in a gaming computer, which will also do basic comp stuff like surfing and wordpad. Are there any benefits of using SATA II in this situation, and will I run into compatability issues with my nForce 3 ultra motherboard?

I do know that SATAII ports are backwards compatiable to SATA1, but i dont know about the other way around. I'm fairly confident that SATAII drives also work with SATA1.. but wait for more reponses :p

It's completely sideways compatible. 1->2, 2->1, you name it.

It's only $3, so I'd go for the II version; your motherboard won't take advantage of the features now, but if you upgrade later it'll move up the chain. And it's only $3 ;)

Ok, thanks. I'll go with the SATA II if I ever get a chance to order the thing(delays keep irritating me).

I was mostly trying to avoid any huge compatibility problems.

Thanks again :)
