I have put together a new system with a Supermicro H8DCE, and I'm having problems adding hard drives to the system. I initially installed Windows XP on two hard drives in RAID 0. Once I got drivers, updates, etc, I wanted to add my three spare SATA drives.
The board has eight SATA ports, four called Master, four called Slave, and each group of four can have Nvidia RAID enabled or disabled. Not wanting to use RAID on the three drives, I turned off RAID for the "Slave" ports (obviously RAID is on for the "Master" ports where the two hard drives running in RAID 0 are connected).
So I hooked up the three drives to the slave ports, hooked up power, and booted Windows. All the drives, including the two running in RAID 0, show up in the system tray under the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon. The RAID 0 drives show up as a single drive in Disk Management, but none of the other three drives are there! The only place I see them is in the system tray. What am I doing wrong? How do I install them properly so that I can access the data on them and use them?
Thanks in advance!
