I'm a bit confused by SATA terminology right now. Could be the lack of sleep, could be that I never learned, but...

SATA 150 has been described to me as a 1.5 Gb/s connection and a 150MB/s connection.
SATA 300 has been described to me as a 3.0 Gb/s connection and a 300MB/s connection.

However, it can't be both. If SATA 150 really is 1.5Gb/s, then max transfer speeds would be 187.5MB/s, not 150. So... What's up? What's the real speed of the bus/connection/whatever?
 
SATA ! = 150MB/s
SATA II = 300MB/s

They don't really reach those speeds though.
 
Teejay, it's both :p You are correct that 1.5gbps = 187.5MB/sec - HOWEVER - there is an 8 to 10 encoding scheme used to transmit data over SATA, so actual throughput available to the system and user is 150MB/sec. One again with 3gbps , that comes to 375MB/sec, until you subtract out the 8 to 10 overhead, leaving 300MB/sec of actual throughput available.
