sata speed problems please help

Hello to all,

I have a system running w2k server
it has 3 hard drives(2 sata and 1 ide), a dvdrom and dvdrw

now the problem Iam having is slow network transfers from local systems to the sata drives!
Iam positive it has something to do with DMA channels because I went through this problem before with my ide drives(and dvd burners in the past) HERE

the only problem is in device manager it dont show if the sata drives are using dma channels

I can not believe that in this day and time dma channels are at a minimum still only 8
I dont use a sound card on this server system so I disabled the sound in bios(figuring I would free up a dma channel there), I do how ever still use the floppy on this so I could not do anything there

can anyone help? this is slowing up my network transfers

Try getting benchmarks with HDTach or something similar. This could be a DMA issue or a network issue.

 
I have HDTACH results! (I dont know how to post pics on this site)
the average read speed on both of my SATA drives are 3MB which is terrible!





I know its a DMA problem becase My IDE drive transfers at good speeds over the network!
 
www.imageshack.us will allow you to uplaod the iamge to their server, then you can copy one of the links they provide into a post here. They provide a "hotlink for forums" option, thats the one you want to use.
 
Ouch. Try a different cable first. Easy to do, and a cheap fix if it works. I would also run manufacturer diagnostics on the drive. Next check drivers - do you have current chipset drivers installed, or is this an add-in RAID card? Also, a motherboard BIOS update may address your issues.
 
I know its not the cables because its actually two different drives(did not paste both from hdtach but the results are the same)
I also have ran seatools on the drive and all its test say that all is well

I downloaded a bios up date maybe a year ago Iam going to check for updates now...


Thanks, I know its some thing with dma though
