I've been shopping around Newegg but have been completely unable to find a slot-load DVD-burner that uses SATA. I'm quite astonished that optical drives have stayed PATA for so long given that SATA has been abundant on computers for the last three years.
Basically I want the same DVD/CD burning functionality I have now (Blu-Ray and HD-DVD don't interest me at this point, nor will they for at least another year) with the feature set I've grown fond of with Plextor such as Lightscribe, etc. The SATA is mostly to keep my computer clean inside but the better transfer rates and simplicity just make so much more sense over the IDE counter-part. I'm also big on slot-load drives and given how clean they look and the fact that damage is less likely to occur I can't really understand why they haven't grown in popularity as well.
If all else fails, Plextor offers a 16x slot-load DVD burner but it is PATA sadly, I will more than likely succumb to acceptance with that model.
