Hey everyone, I've never used SATA drives until now, and I wasn't sure if mine is working right. My Raptor (74GB) shows up as an IDE drive in the BIOS and in the Device Manger. It's labeled as "Third IDE Master" I was wondering if its suppose to be like that or if I installed the driver or the actual drive wrong?

How SATA drives show up in your BIOS / OS depends on your SATA controller.

On most chipset-integrated SATA controllers (Nforce4, Intel 915/925) , the system sees SATA as just another IDE controller. (If not set to RAID mode) This is done for simplicity - you can load Windows without "F6"ing a driver during installation. Until you load the chipset drivers, Windows will also call them "IDE" controllers.

Third-party SATA controllers (Promise, VIA, Silicon Image, etc) are perceived as "SCSI controllers" by Windows, even if they are integrated on your board. Motherboards using 3rd party SATA were a temporary measure, before SATA was integrated into chipsets. They require using a driver disk during Windows installation, just like most RAID cards and other controllers. (SCSI, etc)
