SATA Shielded Cables

I wouldn't call that expensive. You shouldn't be using any cable that costs less than $7-8 a piece, esp SATA. It's interesting that all of a sudden everyone is freaking out about shielding but as a dedicated hardware nut I've got one of those shielded SATA cables coming in tomorrow to see what's going on. I buy into the ATA cable issues mainly because it's so old, but SATA I'm not so sold on.

Nevertheless, if you're using the cables that came with your mobo or your promise card that could definitely be the problem. I've had both types go bad *especially* the Promise cables. They're pack in cables and are of crap quality although they do like nice :D In my experience, the local OEM often has the trusted parts mainly because they don't want to deal with the tech support headaches.

Ill buy into the whole shielding thing for now as well until someone proves it wrong.

Tripp Lite makes good procuts though from previous experience so I'd say their a quality cable.

Tried the Tripp Lite, all hype. My ATA cables being shielded made a significant improvement, but the shielded SATA cable from my experience is a waste of money although if your ATA cables aren't shielded then they may help???

I wouldn't say their all hype just cause theirs no performance boost. They may still help with data loss and corruption.

There's no data loss or corruption prior to or after use of these cables. If there was data loss or corruption, I would notice it in the files themselves and in the transfer speed. If anything, my scores went *down* using the shielded cable but I chalk that up to statistical discrepancy. They might help if you have something in your case that's just a piece of garbage causing EMI but in a typical case using recent components I just can't imagine that being the case. Besides, it's not like SATA is some ancient standard, it came after ATA - they had to have considered the drawbacks of ATA cabling in developing the new standard and its cabling. As far as I have seen shielded SATA cables is a good way to waste your money - my $8 OEM SATA cables are just as good.

My drives perform good with no apparent data loss using the '90degree angeld cables form newegg

you gotta think guys. regular IDE cables are not shielded either and they have no problems. Don't see why SATA would. even though they do run at much higher frequencies.

thats the thing. Regular ATA cables have been proven to cause corruption etc. Theres a few links that prove it and show performance increases. I didnt archive them but if Czar sees this he will post them.
