At first everything was smooth. Benchmarked 58,000 on sisoft then loaded a newer driver and got 67,000. All of a sudden I find the system acting very slow and noticed a yellow flag in device manager... I rolled back the driver and it seemed fine. I cant seem to find the latest driver for the onboard SATA 3112R from silicon Images. If i try to launch certain programs my mouse will hang and stay completely still then all of a sudden it will free up and load the program. Slowly! I benchmarked it again to get a score of 53,000 slower then my old scores but not slow enough to be causeing the problems im having. I do have the latest Bios for my mobo but not sure about the latest SATA bios for the controller. Gigabyte doesnt seem to have one on thier site for my board GA-7N400 Pro. THanks for any advice.

Download the diagnostics tool from Western Digital and try to check each drive to see if they are good. It's also possible the array is slightly borked, and would need to be rebuilt.

and see the SATA cautions at the top of the board (Sticky)

Here's an interesting story that should make you think:
Silicon Image 2 port RAID card by LSI w/my twin wd360gd
Tried it on my Gigabyte GA-7VRXP w/an XP 2100+.
Ran ATTO, I got 70K for the 512 mark in write.
Also, it felt NO FASTER than my WD800JB.
So, wondering wtf? I try another motherboard right off the bat, every other component of the computer was the same.
My eternally loyal ECS K7S5A with the '0' sticker (never seen another one with a 0 sticker or known anyone with one!).
Pop that in, 170K.

My conclusion? I'll never touch a Gigabyte board again.

Problem ended up being loose power connections... the power plug off my psu plugged into the drive extremely easy. I took it off and used a small knife to close the female pins. Plugged it back in and all is good.. no more stupid lockups. The driver I loaded was 1.0.0.40. I am unable to find anything newer. Windows does detect a newer driver but when loaded I get the yellow flag. Im begining to think its trying to load the 3112A instead of the 3112R driver. As far as performance goes I did notice a speed difference with the Raid. Specially when installing large programs that are being installed off of the drive. Im just glad its all working.

I get the same mouse issue but rarely, still its ultra annoying in multiplayer games !! Single Raptor on the Intel ICH5. Ill try to tighten up the power connector too.

Found out my problem... and boy was this one odd. I kept having weird video problems... screen saver was locking up... 3dmark was looking all messed up and locking up. I screwed with different drivers for about 2 hours then all of a sudden my microsoft bluetooth keyboar stops working. I stuck in some new batteries and tried to reconnect like 15 times but no good. So I gave up and took it back to Bestbuy. I then exchanged it for the MX DUO wireless setup. MUCH MUCH better then my bluetooth from microsoft. The best part is... all my problems went away!!!! Everything is working fine now... screensaver is fine and 3dmark looks normal and actually makes it through the benchmark.. Dunno what was wrong with it but somehow that keyboard/mouse setup went bad. I had used it for about 10 months with no problems.. but im glad I got the MX duo becuase the mouse is MUCH better.
