SATA Raid 0 problem w/ XP new install (formatting)

I have 2 250GB Western Digital sata hard drives in a RAID 0 configuration controlled by Intel ICH6R. Everything in BIOS is set right... in RAID mode, XP also detected the array once I loaded the drivers by pressing "F6". Here's the problem... when I try either a quick or regular formation... I get an error message saying "cannot format the partition.. drive maybe damage"... something to that extend. I ran the Western Digital tool and did a quick check of both drives and they were perfect.
Couple of things I'm thinking about:

1. Do I need a low level format since I'm running two brand new sata drives? (Not too much experience w/ SATA stuff.)
2. Jumpers... do I have to set the jumpers. I did couple of searches and found out that the drives should operate fine w/o setting the jumpers.

I'll appreeciate any input. Thanks!!

I have been having the same issue with my SATA drives and it appears no one has a clue as to what the problem is. This may force me over to the MAC side.

what mobo are you guys using??? if i were you id set the bios back to its default and try setting it all up again. you may have accidentally tweaked somthing without noticing. if it does the same thing look to see if they are compatible with your mobo. i have 2 of the wd 300 gb hd's (16 mb cach) and im going to be doing exactially what your trying to do in about a week when my mobo gets here. ill let you guys know if i have any troubles. and how to fix em if i figure them out. Sorry im not much help but tats th best advise i can give you.

Tried that and it won't work what is the deal. I think I may switch back to normal 7200 IDE this is not acceptable really bad product. The drive worked fine when I had it on a
RAID but now that I disabled the raid the other drive formated fine but this one won't this really sucks.

try runing the sata harddrives in a non raid config. just set them up normally maybe thatd work... and maybe a low level format wouldnt be a bad idea either. i am new to sata as well but stuff like this hapens for other things as well you gotta just keep trying diffrent things.

hey guys look at what i found "I put together my system based on this board, an AMD 3500+ and 1 gig Kingston mem. I put it together, turned it on and it posted fine the first time. I have no stability problems.

I downgraded it one star because of a couple of issues. Matrox G550 drivers won't load, but video works with generic drivers. Matrox is working on the problem. Also, I'm having some problems setting up a RAID using SATA drivers[/B]. It might be a driver/OS issue, I'm working on it.

Two heads up items: Make sure you've got a power supply with enough juice on the 12v rail (>20 amp) or you might have stability problems. Also, WinXP SP2 update caused the blue screen of death and required a complete reload. I blame Microsoft, though.

As always, Newegg's service was impeccable.

this is a review of the platnum 2 i found im looking to see if other ppl are having problems installing a raid 0 sata setup with sp 2 that could be why its tweaking out. i know im kinda just thowing things out there but maybe its worth looking into.
